Elisabeth stage Salzburg

The Elisabethbühne, now known as the Salzburger Schauspielhaus, is Austria's largest non-repertory theatre. With about ten productions and one show for children per season, there is a performance every day from September to the beginning of July in the two auditoriums. The carefully selected programme offers everything from the plays of antiquity and the classics to modern day productions, from tragedy to comedy and even new, experimental theatre: a wide range to suit theatregoers of all ages.
Associated with the theatre are a theatre school and a company producing children's musicals.

The theatre is in the Petersbrunnhof, a former estate belonging to the seminary of St. Peter in the Nonntal part of the city, right by the castle to the south of the centre of town. This historic building, which has its origins in the Middle Ages, was extensively renovated by the Salzburg authorities a few years ago and is equipped with the latest theatre technology.
