The ice caves in Werfen
Just about half an hour away from the Hotel Kamml, you can find the biggest ice caves in the world. Let a guide take you on a trip through enormous tunnels and halls – the fascinating figures of eternal ice will impress your whole family.
When naturalist Anton von Posselt-Czorich discovered the entrance to a big icy cave in the 19th century, he certainly didn’t know he just stepped through the portal of the biggest ice caves in the world. Today, visiting the ice caves in Werfen has become one of the favorite things to do in Salzburg for a great number of visitors.
Inside the mountain
The strange shapes of the centuries-old ice figures excite both young and older visitors. The highlight of a guided tour through the mountain is the “Alexander von Mörk cathedral”, a huge, completely iced natural hall in the middle of the mountain, which was named after its discoverer Alexander von Mörk. After his death in world war one, von Mörk was buried in this hall.
More things to do in Werfen
Beside the ice caves, many tourists visit Werfen because of another big tourist attraction: The Hohenwerfen fortress. We recommend visiting both of them since they really guarantee excitement and a good day for the whole family.
