Lake Königssee
The idyllic lake Königssee at the foot of mount Watzmann is one of the cleanest lakes in Germany. Enjoy peaceful silence while walking around the mountain lake or discover the region by boat.
A day trip to lake Königssee in Bavaria is a special experience in many aspects. The lake belongs to the small village of Schönau near Berchtesgaden. The Watzmann’s majestic mountain face, which is the highest in the eastern alps, is a sight worth seeing. Listen to its vast echo when your boat guide blows his horn or discover the lake on your own in a rent rowboat.
St. Bartholomä pilgrimage church
You should also visit the small church St. Bartholomä. Situated on the Königsee’s romantic shore, the chapel has a long tradition as a pilgrimage church for believing wanderers: For nearly 400 years, people have been gathering for the “Almer pilgrimage” once a year, making it Europe’s oldest and most traditional mountain pilgrimage. About one hiking hour away from St. Bartholomä, you can find the so-called “ice chapel” at the foot of the Watzmann, a huge perennial tube of ice. Though you shouldn’t enter due to the risk of falling ice, it does look fascinating from the outside.
Hiking at lake Königssee
Wanderers will be delighted by lake Königssee’s rich fauna and flora. With a little luck you can watch wild animals such as deer or mountain hares in their natural environment. For mountaineers, the region around the Königssee also holds some demanding routes and various alps and shielings to rest.
Due to its central location, Hotel Kamml is your perfect place to stay if you plan to go on a day trip not only to lake Königsee but also other places in Bavaria or Salzburg. Send us you holiday enquiry now.
