Mozart's birthplace

The Mozart family lived 26 years in the “Hagenauer House” in the Getreidegasse. On 27.January 1756 the most famous son of Salzburg was born here.

The prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived the first seven years of his live together with his sister and their parents in the very heart of Salzburg. So his first steps into the world of music and composing took place in Number 9. The family moved out in 1773.

The Museum

In 1880 the International Mozart Foundation turned the house into the Mozart Museum. Since then it has constantly grown bigger and better. On three floors furniture and objects as well as one of the biggest collections of paintings of the Mozart family are exhibited. The core of the Museum is definitely the collection of Mozart’s instrument, especially his violins and pianos.

Constantly changing special exhibitions keep make Mozart´s birthplace a attraction, that is always interesting and visitable.

The museum is open every day from 9-17 o’clock, in July and August till 20 o´clock.
