Salzburg Ice Caves
We work with experienced tour operators to take you to the Eisriesenwelt ice caves, a wonder of nature in the Salzburg Alps. Our route takes us first over the Lueg Pass, past the memorial to the Salzburg freedom fighter Josef Struber, then along the Salzach as far as Werfen, where we are greeted by a mighty fortress. Hohenwerfen Castle became widely known as the setting for the film "Where Eagles Dare". Then, after a cable-car ride and a short walk, we find ourselves in front of the largest ice caves in the world. There are over 47 km of paths, which indicates the scale of the labyrinth inside the mountain. Just one kilometre of path has been made secure and accessible to the public. Accompanied by experienced cave guides, the path takes us past a huge subterranean glacier and mysterious ice figures into a completely different world.
In order to enjoy this tour to the full, it is essential to wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes, and to be reasonably fit for the walk up to the caves and through this fascinating dream-like landscape. Afterwards, everyone will have earned some refreshment, before we take you back to Salzburg.
