Winter activities

In winter, Salzburg is exceptionally tranquil but also shows its sports side. Along with romantic Advents conerts and atmospheric Christmas markets, there are many active winter sports in SalzburgerLand: from skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and winter hiking to horse-drawn carriage rides in the snow-covered valleys of Salzburg

A special experience is a winter hike on the local mountains of Salzburg. Mainly on the Kapuzinerberg, you can follow in the footsteps of famous people. The great lyricist Stefan Zweig once lived there, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart also loved to hike on this mountain.

In the middle of the historic district of Salzburg, the Mozart ice skating rink attracts numerous vacationers and families and is accompanied by wonderful background music, great Christmas lights, and a grandiose entertainment program for young and old. And when the Mozart season begins, you can skate for free from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

A carriage ride is a wonderful experience for everyone not just in summer but also in winter. It's a great way to get to know the impressive historic district of Salzburg. You will be shown the most beautiful places in Salzburg and will learn interesting information while comfortably seated in the carriage - wrapped in a cozy blanket.

Bad Dürrnberg is only 25 min away by car from Wals-Siezenheim and offers a great view of the Hohensalzburg castle as well as tons of fun for the whole family. The ski area has 9km of pure skiing and snowboarding enjoyment. Of course, the ski area has much to offer for non-skiers too! This area is also perfect for romantic winter hikes, horse-drawn sleigh rides, tobogganing, ice stock, or cross-country skiing.

The Gaisberg offers a winter experience like hardly any other city. The cross-country skiing trails in Oberwinkel will delight fans of skating and diagonal technique. These routes ideally promote circulation and call for stamina, which is why we are proud to ensure floodlit routes after dark.
